چکیده
Several construction methods for rational approximations to functions of one real variable are described in the present paper; the computational results that characterize the comparative accuracy of these methods are presented; an effect of error autocorrection is considered. This effect occurs in efficient methods of rational approximation (e.g., Padé approximations, linear and nonlinear Padé–Chebyshev approximations) where very significant errors in the coefficients do not affect the accuracy of the approximation. The matter of import is that the errors in the numerator and the denominator of a fractional rational approximant compensate each other. This effect is related to the fact that the errors in the coefficients of a rational approximant are not distributed in an arbitrary way but form the coefficients of a new approximant to the approximated function. Understanding of the error autocorrec-tion mechanism allows to decrease this error by varying the approximation procedure depending on the form of the approximant. Some applications are described in the paper. In particular, a method of implementation of basic calculations on decimal computers that uses the technique of rational approximations is described in the Appendix. To a considerable extent the paper is a survey and the exposition is as elementary as possible.

A complete algorithm to find exact minimal polynomial by approximations
We present a complete algorithm for finding an exact minimal polynomial from its approximate value by using an improved parameterized integer relation construction method. Our result is superior to the existence of error controlling on obtaining an exact rational number from its approximation. The algorithm is applicable for finding exact minimal polynomial of an algebraic number by its approxi...
متن کاملTruncation Errors in Padé Approximations to Certain Functions: An Alternative Approach
1. Introduction. The problem of finding rational approximations to functions has received a considerable amount of attention recently, and many methods exist for finding such approximations. A brief survey of the most widely used methods has been given by Cheney and Southard [1]. In all problems of approximation, it is essential to know the truncation error which arises when the function is rep...
متن کاملAnalytic Solution for Hypersonic Flow Past a Slender Elliptic Cone Using Second-Order Perturbation Approximations
An approximate analytical solution is obtained for hypersonic flow past a slender elliptic cone using second-order perturbation techniques in spherical coordinate systems. The analysis is based on perturbations of hypersonic flow past a circular cone aligned with the free stream, the perturbations stemming from the small cross-section eccentricity. By means of hypersonic approximations for the ...
متن کاملExponential Models: Approximations for Probabilities
Welch & Peers (1963) used a root-information prior to obtain posterior probabilities for a scalar parameter exponential model and showed that these Bayes probabilities had the confidence property to second order asymptotically. An important undercurrent of this indicates that the constant information reparameterization provides location model structure, for which the confidence property ...
متن کاملAn algorithm for approximating nondominated points of convex multiobjective optimization problems
In this paper, we present an algorithm for generating approximate nondominated points of a multiobjective optimization problem (MOP), where the constraints and the objective functions are convex. We provide outer and inner approximations of nondominated points and prove that inner approximations provide a set of approximate weakly nondominated points. The proposed algorithm can be appl...
